Sowing Without Knowing
Sowing Without Knowing
By: Brian Keel
TOLEDO, OH – The last plants to be harvested from the garden this year were acorn squash and pumpkins. The pumpkins are already adorning the front porch and may soon be destined for pies. The acorn squash will likely be stuffed with sausage and baked for dinner in the near future. Good fruit of a good garden.
The funny thing is, I did not actually plant either of these items in the garden. They both must have come up as a result of the compost I worked into the dirt in late spring. While the external portions of the old vegetables decomposed and fed the soil, the seeds found a new home and took root.
Galatians 6:7 says “… A man reaps what he sows.” I did in fact sow the squash and pumpkin seeds in my garden, but I did it without knowing. And so I wonder what seeds I am sowing without knowing in my own life and those of my friends and family. I know I love and encourage my kids, but do I also sow stress and unreasonable expectations? I know I give my staff plenty of freedom to do things the way they think is best, but do I also sow fear of failure and feelings of lack of support? I know I pray for those who do not know the Lord, but do my actions when I am with them sow skepticism?
Take stock of what you are sowing, good fruit will be the result!
