New Beginnings
New Beginnings
New beginnings are always filled with excitement and promises: the birth of a child, the first kiss in a romantic relationship, a new job, the smell of a new car, newlyweds exiting their marriage ceremony and, of course, a new year.
A new year gives opportunity to restart our lives again. And, it provides an opportunity to make a list of the things we want to change, improve and/or begin.
What are some things you might put on your resolution list? Pause for a moment and write them down.
Many of us would include things like:
- Spending more time with our families
- Losing weight
- Learning a new skill
- Traveling to an enchanting destination
A recent feature on a national news network said that most Americans ALWAYS include a promise to workout and get in better shape in their New Year’s resolution list. That is always a good thing to do, especially for those of us who work in the YMCA organization.
As you make your promise list for 2010, give consideration to matters that get your spiritual life in shape, too. Put daily prayer and Bible study at the top. Ponder expressions of service and “give back” which benefits others. Take the initiative to heal broken relationships. Make meaningful promises to others and to yourself – and keep them. Make your new year one of fulfilled promises.
“. . . I have been telling you about Jesus Christ the Son of God. He isn’t one to say yes when he means no. He always does exactly what he says. He carries out and fulfills all of God’s promises, no matter how many of them there are . . . “ (2 Cor. 1:19-20, The Living Bible)
