Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
I am proud of my daughter Emma this week, well, more than usual I mean. For well over a year she has been growing her hair long with the intention of, when it was long enough, cutting and donating the pony tail to Locks of Love. If you do not know, Locks of Love is a charity that collects donated hair and creates custom-fitted hair pieces for children suffering from a medical hair loss. One of the best things about this group is how children can help children. Eighty percent of the donations come from children and 100 percent of the donations go to children.
Kids do not have a lot of money to give away. Kids do not have a lot of time to volunteer. But kids do have big hearts and more than enough love to go around. I learned this lesson again from my eight-year-old as she worked with that long hair for months, leaving extra shampoo, conditioner, detangling spray and a slew of hair bands in her wake. It would have been easier to just get it cut and move on, but she stuck with it and reached her goal. Why? Because there was a little girl out there who needed her help. That was enough. I guess that should be enough for all of us.
“Jesus said, “Let let the little children come to me… for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:14

Wow. That is an encouraging story. Props to Emma and also to you and Pam for laying a foundation of giving in her life. May we all look for ways to give like she did.
